Hello, beautiful!

You’ve heard it all your life.

You’ve heard it from people around you.

You’ve heard it from the media.

At some point, you started hearing it inside your own head.

You’re too tall. You’re too short. You’re too fat. You’re too skinny. You’re not enough.

It’s a lie. They’re all lies.

We want to help remind you about your awesome, strong, radiant, and beautiful self.

Boudoir
Photography

The word “boudoir” is a French word that originally referred to a women’s private sitting room or salon. It was derived from the word “bouder,” a French verb which can be translated as “to sulk” or “to pout.” In other words, the boudoir was a private place where one could retreat to sulk or pout.

Boudoir photography, however, is not about sulking or pouting. No one would seriously claim this.

Unlike glamour or fashion photography that is intended to be consumed and viewed by as many as possible, boudoir photography is commissioned photography created for the individual being photographed.

Fine Art
Photography

Unlike traditional commercial photography, whose impact is measured by the amount of money it brings in, boudoir photography’s impact is most profoundly noticed in the subjects being photographed.

These are just some of the words that have been used to describe boudoir photography: empowering, transformative, powerful, moving, spiritual, eye-opening, luxurious, revealing.

We invite you to indulge in a non-judgmental, bespoke experience with Helen Edward Photography.

Empowering

For far too long, women have been indoctrinated with the idea that they are not enough. For many women, their bodies have been a source of insecurity because of societal norms and pressures. Our goal is to work with our clients to create an experience that uplifts, builds confidence, and empowers.

A girl should be two things: who and what she wants.

- Norman Frank

Being a woman should be your supreme achievement and not your deepest fear. Celebrate womanhood, fuel yourself with self-confidence and let that fuel empower you to soar towards your dreams.

– Mani Mukhija

Women belong in all places where decisions are being made… It shouldn’t be that women are the exception.

– Ruth Bader Ginsburg

I have chosen to no longer be apologetic for my femaleness and my femininity. And I want to be respected in all of my femaleness because I deserve to be.

TRANSFORMATIVE

Human beings have an amazing ability to view themselves through a different pair of lenses than they use to see others. We are our own worst critics. We expect perfection from ourselves where we allow imperfection in others. We deprive ourselves of the very grace we generously afford to those around us. And sometimes, the very thing we need is the opportunity to see ourselves the way others do. Our mission is to harness the power of photography and create works of art that impacts our clients, recharges their souls, and reminds them of easily forgotten truths.

If you don’t think photos are important, wait until they’re all you have left.

– Missy Mwac

What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.

Jeffrey Edward

My name is Jeffrey. My middle name is Edward, and I am the Edward of Helen Edward Photography. As with many people who fall in love with photography, my interest in it started as a child when my dad would like me play with his Pentax 35 mm camera.

In 2016 I became a father to an amazing baby girl. As I reflected on raising a girl and what that meant, I started to pay more attention to how much women are affected by negative body-image with influences from every aspect of life. I had heard about this before, but I had never thought deeply about this. As a new father, though, I started to think about the positive and negative influences my daughter would eventually have to face.

During this time I discovered Boudoir Photography. I was fascinated by the artistry and beauty. I was drawn in by the empowerment that women were able to experience through this type of photography. And I was hooked. I knew that this was the type of photography for me.

Allison Helene

My name is Allison Helene. And I'm the Helen (we thought two E's back-to-back would be too much) of Helen Edward Photography.

When my husband Jeffrey told me he wanted to get into boudoir photography I wasn't sure what to think.  I admit, at first, I was a bit insecure with the thought and then realized the irony in the feeling. Why is it that as women our instinct has become insecurity? Why do we not naturally celebrate our bodies and the ways we are unique? Photography is a form of art which allows a people to see themselves through a new lens. As a woman, I strive to bring out the inner strength and beauty of myself and others. As a mother, I strive to raise my daughter to appreciate her beauty, inside and out.
