What is Boudoir?

Updated: Jun 21, 2023

I suppose boudoir photography means different things to different people. The word originates form the French language and referred to a woman's private sitting room. The word has, like many other words, evolved in its meaning.

While the Boudoir images may share similar characteristics with Glamour or Fashion photography, the purpose of it is quite different. Glamour and Fashion photography are typically commissioned for commercial use to be viewed by an intended target audience.

In contrast, boudoir is typically commissioned by an individual who is interested in the final images for their own personal use -- whether that be for themselves or as a gift to a significant other.

Some seek out a boudoir experience to rediscover themselves. Some want to escape their comfort zone and do something after divorce. Some commemorate victories like becoming healthier or overcoming an illness.

Whatever your reason, we want to welcome you to reach out to Helen Edward Photography. We offer a bespoke portrait experience that will pamper and empower you. Contact us today for more information.
