Why We Named Our Studio After Ourselves — And Why It Took Us Years to Tell You

There's a name hidden in plain sight on everything we do.
The logo. The website. The signature on every image we've ever delivered to a client.
Helen Edward.
Most people assume it's a person. A woman, maybe — elegant, composed, the kind of name you'd give a fine art gallery or a couture atelier. And in a way, they're right. It is a person. It's two people, actually. Collapsed into one name, the way two people eventually do when they build something together.
Helen comes from Allison Helene. Edward comes from Jeffrey Edward.
That's us.
The moment that started it
Jeffrey didn't set out to photograph boudoir. He set out to be a father.
When our daughter was born, something shifted in the way he saw the world — specifically, the way he saw women. He watched Allison move through pregnancy, through birth, through the relentless physical and emotional labor of new motherhood. He watched her negotiate with a body that had changed. He watched her stand in front of a mirror some mornings and not recognize the woman looking back.
And he thought: she should see what I see.
Not to fix anything. Not because something was broken. But because what he saw — the strength, the softness, the complete and utterly unrepeatable human being in front of him — was extraordinary. And she couldn't see it.
That gap between how we see ourselves and how we actually are — that's what Helen Edward was built to close.
Allison's side of it
I've been on the other side of the lens now. I know what it feels like to sit in the consultation and think, I'm not sure I'm the right person for this.
I know what it feels like to wonder if you're too much of something — too soft, too angular, too marked by time or by living. I know how the armor goes on in the morning and comes off only when no one's watching.
What Jeffrey built — what we built — is a space where the armor isn't needed. Where the only thing asked of you is to show up as yourself. Exactly as you are. Right now.
That's not a small thing to offer someone. We've never taken it lightly.
What's in a name
We chose Helen Edward because we wanted the studio to carry both of us — not just Jeffrey's eye behind the camera, but Allison's understanding of what it means to stand in front of it. The trust that requires. The courage it takes.
Every session at Helen Edward is built on that tension: the artist who sees you clearly, and the guide who knows exactly how vulnerable it feels to be seen.
We are a fine art boudoir studio serving clients throughout Southern California — Los Angeles, Orange County, the Inland Empire, and beyond. Our sessions start at $1,900 because we believe the work we do together deserves to be treated as the investment it is. Not just in photographs, but in how you see yourself for the rest of your life.
If you've ever looked at an image of yourself and thought that's not me — we'd like to show you something different.
